Dinosaurs! Rawr!!!

It is taking longer than expected to get my tech stuff together for the podcast, so here is a little blurb about our weekend:

Sunday morning we decided to go to the Dawn of the Dinosaurs exhibit at Chiang Kai-sheik Memorial Hall. Both Sage and Jude are dino fans (or "shaursh," as Sage calls them) and it was supposed to be kid friendly.

As far as exhibits go it was about a B or B-. Very standard tricks - lots of black mixed with flashing colored lights, occasional growls, animated explanations. Not being able to read the exhibit info didn't matter much as we were going at toddler speed - bursts of sprinting followed by detailed examinations of life sized dino models. It would have been pretty boring if Sage hadn't been enjoying it so much. What were old tricks to us were brand new to her on our first real museum excursion as a family of three.

There was an animated film that was actually fairly easy to follow despite the language barrier. The score of the film was decent, too, which helped.

An unexpected bonus for the day was our first visit to Liberty Square. You can tell you're somewhere important as you pull into the MRT station - lots of granite and gold. When you exit the MRT you pop up next to the National Theater and the matching National Concert Hall.

CKS's large statue is housed in the enormous Memorial Hall at the other end of the park. The dino exhibit was on the ground floor of this building. There is also a Dali exhibit going on right now, but we might try to come back to that sans toddler.

Such a large, open area must be put to good use! Besides small children working out the wiggles, there was a large stage set up for a jazz festival. The porch areas of the Theater and the Concert Hall were being used by various groups for dance rehearsals. It was a very active place on a Sunday morning.
We will definitely be making a few more trips to this part of town!
